Fighter Pilot

2nd Fighter Squadron at McGuire AFB, NJ

After Pilot Training, I was on my way to McGuire AFB, NJ. The 26th Air Division,4709th Air Defense Wing, 2nd Fighter Interceptor squadron (FIS). I was there two years and 10 months. I served as a pilot, Assistant Operations Officer, and a flight commander. I was promoted to Captain in late 1955.

Most of the operational flights involved intercepting aircraft coming from the east toward the Boston, New York and Washington area. These were primarily comercial airliners. Much of our time involved all weather training and practice intercept flights.
